-Currently the fastest growing combat sport.
-Not a generic mixture of martial arts
but a sport of its own, using wide varieties of traditional martial art techniques
Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC)
-Finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations
-Rounded up competitors of various arts and pitted them against each other.
At first, there were minimal rules concerning safty, however, over the years, rules have been implemented to forsee the safty of the competitors, and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport.
MMA has grown massively in popularity and promoters have seen financial success to rival other combat sports, such as boxing.
MMA Techniques.
Basically MMA has 3 components
Stand-up techniques ==> Footwork & Strikes.
Usually from various forms of boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and forms of full contact karate.
Clinch ==> Takedowns, clinch control & throws.
Usually from freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, Sambo & judo. On the other hand, Muay Thai is trained to improved the striking aspects of the clinch.
Ground ===> Submission locks, Choke holds as well as the ablilty to maintain ground control.
Usually from Brazilian Jui-Jitsu(BJJ) Shoot Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, judo and sambo.
